Onboard brakes, so awesome yet at the same time, so bad. I mean I wouldn't mind a warm diff.

A transfer case on the *side*, I believe, of a mostly standard 2CV gearbox, with three levers. One changes into low range, one is linked to the normal shifter for shifting it from a different location (further back, HURR), one engages four-wheel drive (engages the rear). In the middle of the car, over the three(!) segment rear drive shaft is a lever to lock the rear diff.

All brakes are inboard, all hubs are three-lug, and the suspension is de rigeur (that's French!) Citroen self-levelmajobbing le buffoonery. Also note that the front half-shafts go over the chassis and the rear ones go under. Because France. Also, the frame rails are virtually completely straight.

I'm going to have rear inboard brakes on my project, because the Jaguar IRS I'm going to swap in has them standard. Could be worse, could be inboard brakes at the front. Where they'll get twice as hot. And overheat the transfer case - not just a diff.
